Campus-selected into Larsen & Toubro Heavy Engineering, Hazira, as a Diploma Engineer Trainee — starting on the fabrication shop floor, supervising shifts on HDS reactors for Fluor and EO reactors for KBR.
Moving into coating, heat treatment and scaffolding, he turns theory into instinct — hands-on with epoxies, zinc, PU and MIO, managing 90+ workmen while learning that in pressure vessels, "good enough" does not exist.
BGAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector Grade 2, NACE CIP Level I, then NACE CIP Level II (No. 20438) — joining a select global community of certified inspectors, while introducing Thermal Spray Aluminium at L&T Hazira.
As Head of Surface Treatment & Coating, he owns the lifecycle end to end — estimation, procedures, planning, execution, inspection — delivering ~140 equipment a year and mentoring the team beneath him.

Across three business units — Refinery & Petrochemical, Heat Transfer, and Nuclear — he owned every link of the surface treatment chain. This is what that actually means.
Study the tender and every governing specification; raise technical queries at the earliest stage; work out the coating system from spec, operating parameters, preservation and transportation needs; cost each system per sq.m of raw material and labour — including acid cleaning — and carry the cost break-up and feasibility for every single equipment to management approval.
Work with Design and project teams on vessel parameters; take paint-manufacturer inputs on systems and performance; embed every testing parameter into the procedure; walk the client through procedure and ITP in pre-job and pre-inspection meetings; record and close every MOM point alongside document approval.
Six-month advance departmental planning across RPV, HTE and Nuclear BUs; convert project lists into sq.m and order paint and abrasive; secure dehumidified sheds, blasting slots and priorities; and take extra care with the special processes — fireproofing, TSA/Zn, FRP, shot peening, glass flake lining, and acid or ultrasonic cleaning.
Get the work done through subcontractors while coordinating TPIs and clients — LRIS, BV, EIL, DNV; enforce British, SSPC, NACE and ISO standards; run every abrasive from shot and garnet to glass beads, and every system from inorganic zinc silicate to solvent-free epoxies by International, Jotun, Carboline, PPG, Hempel and Sherwin-Williams; monitor weather before and during application; execute pickling & passivation; own permits, protocols and timely handover.
Post-2018, structured data runs the department: online surface-treatment requests with finance and quantity approvals, quality modules quantifying contractor rejection rates, scaffolding dashboards, and a live vendor-rating system. AI estimation reached 90% right-first-time inputs, with non-contact DFT gauges, motion-sensor deadman switches and laser cleaning in the pipeline. And when responsibility itself changed — centralising purchase, subcontracting and stores in 2014, restructuring into Technical, Execution and Payment verticals in 2019 — he led the change rather than resisting it.
Brought Thermal Spray Aluminium to Heavy Engineering, then scaled it — 22+ refinery equipment for KNPC, robust process control proven on LNG Canada and IOCL Bathinda, and applicator qualification for ExxonMobil USA.
Established passive fire protection capability in Heavy Engineering and completed 10 projects for ExxonMobil and Worley — a brand-new product line built from procedures up.
Implemented peelable preservation coatings for SS and blasted-TSA surfaces, first-ever water-based ceramic coating for gasification projects, and glass-bead blasting as a pickling alternative.
Built online surface-treatment, inspection-quality and scaffolding modules with live dashboards, vendor-rating analytics — and AI-based coating estimation reaching 90% right-first-time inputs.
Process lead for pickling & passivation of the ITER Vacuum Vessel and ultrasonic cleaning of 60,000+ In-Wall Shield components through an 8-stage process — nuclear-fusion-grade cleanliness.
